An office with family traits
“Our new office is a reflection of our company”, according to Pieter van Oord, CEO of dredging company Van Oord. The office has many nautical characteristics in its design. In addition, via waterways, it is reachable from all over the world, due to its location on a junction in the Maas, one of the most important waterways in The Netherlands.
Fresh and sustainable
In order to ensure that the building reflects Van Oord’s core, no nonsense, and at the same time super innovative, Pieter van Oord was intensively involved in the development of the office. He is one of the fourth generation, leading the dredging company of 1868. With him, the whole family was involved in the new development. The result is a fresh office with a wonderful panorama of the Rotterdam homeport. The Nieuwe Maas, as the building is officially called, was inaugurated by the (at the time) Prince of Orange Willem-Alexander, in 2012..

The building of approx. 14,000 m2 has a sustainable and maritime character. The maritime aspect is stressed by the proximity of the water, the interior where a lot of wood was used, and the architecture with balconies and terraces. This is reminiscent of a ship’s bridge. Sustainability was an important part of the design and the construction and is first and foremost expressed in the moss-sedum on the roofs and the heat/cold storage.
Important training centre
Other than workplaces the building also houses the Van Oord Academy: the internal training centre, which has simulators to train fleet personnel for the main utility vessels.
The office building employs around 700 staff. Meanwhile OVG Real Estate also realised phase 2 of the Nieuwe Maas in the neighbouring area.
